Hypocrisy

Hypocrisy is the soft underbelly of the church. Generally, people of the church espouse the loftiest of aspirations, even heroic virtues of integrity and compassion, and so often fall far short of their highest and best. At times, people in church appear to be stalwarts in the community and bulwarks of morality – and then often by happenstance, there is a shameful exposure and a dramatic fall from grace. These people are shown to be hypocrites. Hypocrisy is the primary reason why young people leave the church as they grow into adulthood. How do we deal with this terrible malady which affects the best of churches? What do we learn from the teachings of Jesus? This is the theme of the sermon on October 30, 2011. Join us for worship on Sunday at 10 am.
