Thursday December 3, 6 p.m. at St. Mary’s Hospital parking lot – Tree lighting
Friday December 11, 7 p.m. at Evangel but hosted by Highland – Nativity Play
Saturday & Sunday December 12 & 13, 7 p.m. at Evangel – Nativity Play
Highland Baptist partnered with Evangel Missionary over the past summer to offer a stimulating Dinosaur Day Camp for the local children. The two churches worked well together for the common goal of outreach to the local geographic community.
A few weeks ago, some members of Evangel invited a few members of Highland to consider working with them on a Christmas outreach with St. Mary’s Hospital, also within the geographic community.
On Thursday December 3 at 6:30 p.m. the two churches will work with the hospital to present a Christmas themed event in the hospital parking lot. A huge Christmas tree will be erected on top of the Emergency Department garage. While the churches encourage members of the community to participate in a carol sing-a-long, the tree will be lighted. Sharing hot chocolate and cookies will follow.
What community involvement! Last year Evangel did something similar and, through free will giving, raised $1400.00 for a glucose meter for the hospital. The offering this year will go towards improving patient comfort on the 5th floor. The whole concept says, “we care”, both to the hospital and to the people of the community.
The members from Evangel then went on with a second invitation to Highland – to get involved in a Christmas drama offered to the community. Proceeds from a free will offering would, again, say that “we care” and be offered to the 5th floor of the hospital for patient comfort.
Both churches are involved in the production by providing actors and staging. Originally, it was agreed that Highland would host on the Friday and Evangel would host on the Saturday and Sunday. For a variety of reasons, this now is not practical. Therefore, although the play will be presented at Evangel only, Highland will be hosts for the Friday December 11th production.
The play is a comedy and appropriate for children as well as adults looking for a new twist on the nativity play. Hilarious actions culminate in a serious ending, acceptable to all theological backgrounds.
Gather your family, friends and especially children and participate in these unusual activities reaching out to the community.
